We’re Naturally Disasters

You are a forest fire.
Unyielding against all
but the strongest attempts
          to subdue you.

Bright flames lapping at the sky,
you clear the path for renewal
with a terrifying efficiency.

I am an earthquake.
A trembling catastrophe,
unpredictable, inevitable, and
          unstoppable once begun.

I tear the ground open
and bury the progress of man
in one violent act.

And–oh!–
that we could put our
differences aside,
we could
             save
                    the world.
