It seems a little odd that I would make a post about my favorite makeup brands, because I almost never wear makeup anymore. But, when I do, these are the brands I go to, hands-down. I’m not a makeup person, but I am addicted to these items!
*Note: None of these are affiliate links. I’m not making any money for this. No companies asked me to do this. I am literally suggesting these things to you because I love them and I want you to put quality stuff on your face, if putting stuff on your faced is your thing.
- Beauty Bakerie Lip Whips.
The best no-smudge liquid lipstick in existence. Did I say “no-smudge?” Yes, I did. And I fucking mean it. I haven’t regularly worn lipstick since middle school, because it’s such a waste. I have to reapply every hour because it all wears off. I’ve thrown out hundreds of dollars of lipstick, each of which claimed to be “long-lasting” or “feather-light” or “you won’t even know it’s there!” and each one wore off or gooped up my face after an hour or less. I have nine shades of Beauty Bakerie’s lip whips and the only reason I don’t have more is because I’m unemployed and have no money to buy them. My goal is to eventually own every color because, witches, they are the only lipstick that stays on my lips and doesn’t goop up. They stay all day with only minimum wear-off from my compulsive lip-licking and biting.
Definitely check some of the videos on their site. They are the real deal. They only come off with oil-based remover (or really greasy food–this is not the lipstick for pizza or burritos, sorry). They’re also owned by a San Diego local black woman, cruelty-free, and offer vegan options. They sell through their website, their San Diego (Mission Valley) brick-and-mortar store, and Forever21.
- e.l.f. Baked Eyeshadow.
There are people who will say that price is an indication of quality. And generally, I agree. But, such is not the case with e.l.f. eyeshadows. Honestly, you can’t go wrong with any of their shadows, but I prefer the individuals because I find buying palettes wasteful when I usually only use two or three colors from them. They’re super pigmented and stay as well as any high-end brand I’ve tried. I actually prefer them over MAC shadows. Plus, if you’re the type of girl who likes using a different color every day, that can get really expensive. e.l.f. is super inexpensive–$3 for a pan.
Unfortunately, they don’t offer quite the range of colors they used to in their single shadows. I guess they’re trying to push their palettes more. But, they have a 100 color palette for $15 if you’re looking for a wider range. They also have dual and tri-color compacts for under $5 as well.
They’re also cruelty-free. And you can find them at your local Target or Wal-Mart.
- Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Powder Duo.
One thing I do try to do daily (which is code for “whenever I have time… about once a week”) is fill in my brows. My go-to is ABH brow powder duo in blonde. They have a wide range of colors (natural colors; sorry to those of you who like your brows to match your cotton candy hair… I’ve felt your pain and it is real).
It’s a little pricy, but worth it. ABH is also a cruelty-free company (perhaps you’ve seen a trend with my makeup choices) and is available through their website, Sephora, and Ulta Beauty.
Go forth and look fabulous!
I love you all.
